Devan came to us with experience in the fire service getting his start in Irvington before going to Jefferson County. Devan worked full time as a Paramedic before figuring out that the fire service was his true calling. Devan handles all EMS related duties for the department which include training, equipment and protocols. Devan is a true asset to the department as well as the community. Devan is also one of the go to guys for public speaking events. Congratulations Devan we look forward to seeing you help lead us into the future! ... See MoreSee Less

This morning Lt. John Cavaletto completed his final shift with CFD. During that shift he had many visitors to bid him a farewell, wishing him good luck in the next season.
After nearly 26 years of dedicated service, Lieutenant John Cavaletto is hanging up his helmet for the last time. Hired on August 10th 1998, John proved himself as a firefighter who could be counted on in the toughest of times.
Promoted to lieutenant on July 7th 2022, he continued to stay committed to our community. Never one to sugarcoat a situation, John always made sure everyone knew exactly where he stood, a trait that earned him both respect and a fair share of memorable moments around the firehouse.
Through the years, John has been a pillar of integrity in this department. His experience, ability to not keep junk around, and straight-shooting personality will be greatly missed.
Thank you, Lieutenant Cavaletto, for your years of dedication, sacrifice, and service to our community. Thank you Rachel, Jonathon, and Andria for the time you've shared him with us. Enjoy your well-earned retirement John—you’ve more than earned it. ... See MoreSee Less

Lt. Drake Tate and FF Devan Orrill had had the privilege of speaking at the 8th grade Career Day today at Kaskaskia College! It’s always great to see young minds curious about the fire service and what it takes to be a firefighter. From teamwork and problem-solving to bravery and dedication, these students got a glimpse into a career that’s more than just fighting fires—it’s about serving the community. Who knows, maybe we just met some future firefighters!

That was such a good time. I love talking about this amazing career and hopefully inspiring a few to consider us. I only wish I would have stopped talking and took a picture of Devan Orrill lol.
Couldn't thinking 2 better representatives for CFD. Some guys step up, and some guys step back. Keep it up.
Why did only Drake get his picture taken?
It's tradition at CFD for shift guys to get together with each other and share a meal together prior to a guys last day. Today, Shift 2 celebrated with Lt. John Cavaletto. John's on the downhill slide with his remaining shifts and today just happened to be a good day to make this meal happen. It was a great lunch to fuel the on duty guys for a fire in the afternoon! 2 1/2 more shifts John! ... See MoreSee Less
